I call these "Christmas" Balls but their use is by no means restricted to decorating Christmas trees. For the actual Christmas ornaments I use traditional Christmas colorsred, green, white, gold, and occasionally blue. But because I love experimenting with color I have used just about every color under the sun in preparing these ornaments. They are beautiful displayed as a decorative group in a basket or bowl. I change out my own basket of balls periodically, choosing colors commensurate with the season, for example, cool blue shades for winter and warm bright colors for summer. I make these ornaments by using pre-made glass shapes and acrylic paints. Paint is dripped into the ball and swirled to coat the entire inside of the ornament. Although a fascinating design appears right away it changes as the ornament dries, creating a marbleized effect. I can never tell what Im going to get until it dries, but the outcome is always fascinating. |
